How to use this tool
Enter current data, expected growth and years of use, then add backup copies as separate capacity.
Enter your details
All defaults are editable planning assumptions. Use actual product specifications and site conditions where possible.
How the estimate works
Grow your entered data by the annual percentage for the selected years, then divide by (1 − free-space fraction) to get the size of each drive. The total across all independent copies is that figure multiplied by the number of copies.
Where product limits or site conditions matter, confirm them against the exact model and installation before buying.
Understanding your result
The estimate includes your stated growth and backup copies. A backup on the same physical drive does not protect against that drive failing. Drive makers label decimal TB, while operating systems may report binary TiB, so displayed free space will look smaller.
Choosing the right equipment
Choose an SSD for fast working files or a suitable HDD for economical bulk capacity. Leave free space for updates and future growth, and keep an independent backup in another device or location.
