How to use this tool
Enter file size and an observed sustained transfer rate, rather than a connector's headline speed.

All defaults are editable planning assumptions. Use actual product specifications and site conditions where possible.
How the estimate works
Convert decimal GB to MB and divide by the measured sustained MB/s. The estimate omits transfer setup time and per-file overhead.
Where product limits or site conditions matter, confirm them against the exact model and installation before buying.
Understanding your result
The calculated time is a best-case estimate based on the sustained rate you enter. Many small files, a nearly full drive or a slow source can take substantially longer than one large sequential transfer.
Choosing the right equipment
Check the slowest part of the route: source drive, destination drive, cable, enclosure and port. For network copies, convert Mbps to MB/s by dividing by eight before allowing for overhead. For repeated backups, test a representative folder and allow time for verification.
