How to Choose Bicycle Accessories

Lights - Lumens and Battery Life

Front lights are measured in lumens - 200-400 lumens is sufficient for urban riding where street lighting exists. For unlit trails or rural roads, look for 600+ lumens. Check battery life and charge time, especially for longer commutes.

Locks - Security Rating

Bike locks are rated by security level. U-locks with hardened steel shackles offer the highest resistance to attack. Cable locks are lighter and more flexible but offer lower security - best used as a secondary lock alongside a U-lock.
