Straight Line Was A Lie is the first new music the New Zealand indie rockers have released since their 2022 album, Expert In A Dying Field, and their first release on their new label ANTI-.
Following the success of Expert In A Dying Field, The Beths collected the coveted Te Tino Pukaemi o te Tau | Album of the Year and Te Tino K?hui Manu Taki o te Tau | Best Group at the 2024 Aotearoa Music Awards.
The new album was written in Los Angeles and recorded in The Beths' studio Auckland — a space where the band can create their signature sound.
When writing Straight Line Was A Lie, Elizabeth Stokes and Jonathan Pearce broke down their typical writing process. Stokes’ intentional deconstruction and rebuilding of her songwriting process has resulted in a complete renewal.
