Powerboards provide different outlet layouts and sometimes USB charging or surge protection. Check the total load limit, plug spacing and the listed protective functions. USB charging ratings apply to the supported ports and devices; they do not increase the board mains capacity. Do not assume every powerboard includes surge protection or an RCD.

Match length and connectors

Extension leads and equipment cords serve different connections. Check the plug and socket arrangement, current rating and approved environment for the selected lead. Choose a suitable length without creating an unsafe cable route, and do not use a connector adapter to bypass the limits or requirements of a circuit or appliance.

Fixed mains components

Use an appropriate installer

Power points, switches and other installation parts differ from portable powerboards. Match the documented application and rating, and use a qualified electrician for fixed mains work. A product photograph does not establish compliance for a particular installation, and a data or telephone wallplate is not a mains outlet.

How to Choose Powerboards & Mains Accessories

Load and protection

Compare the combined connected load with the circuit and product rating. Distinguish overload protection, surge suppression and residual-current protection. Avoid daisy-chaining powerboards, and follow the manufacturer instructions for cable handling and high-load appliances instead of assuming all outlet accessories support the same use.

Environment and form factor

Check indoor or outdoor suitability, physical clearance and the intended equipment connector. Rack DC distribution units in the wider assortment have a different purpose from household AC boards. Select a complete usable product or a compatible installation component as appropriate, with any missing certification information resolved before use.
