Description
Known for her genre-defying sound that blends elements of jazz, R&B, hip-hop, and experimental music, keiyaA draws influence on this record from Japanese electronic producers, punk, metal, post-punk, reconnecting with her inner child, video games, anime (which has influenced how she uses her voice on the album).
In early 2025, KeiyaA expanded her artistic expression with milk thot, her first full-length stage production, which premiered at Abrons Arts Center in New York City. The performance, which featured multiple songs from hooke's law, combined live music, poetry, and choreography to delve into topics such as self-image, family lineage, and societal consumption.
Developed during a residency at Abrons, milk thot marked a significant evolution in her multidisciplinary approach to storytelling. keiyaA's debut album, Forever, Ya Girl (2020), received critical acclaim, earning a "Best New Music" designation from Pitchfork and appearing on several year-end best-of lists, propelling her to the cultural vanguard, and earning her the praise of artists like Solange, Jay- Z, Earl Sweatshirt, Blood Orange, and Moses Sumney.
The self-produced project showcases her powerful vocals and introspective lyricism, exploring themes of Black womanhood and personal liberation. It was later reissued on XL in 2024.
